The Products

The Grip Guard Anti-Slip Treatment products sold are all concentrates and are meant to be mixed with water at ratios that vary anywhere from 4:1 all the way up to 30:1 water to solution ratio. The ratio depends on the floor surface being treated. (See Application Tips)

Coverage

A formula mixture of 4:1 of Grip Guard solutions (#1, #2, #3) should cover 40 to 60 square metres. This coverage will vary somewhat depending on the type of floor tile and absorption. A mixture of 8:1 should do approximately 80 to 120 square metres, and so on.

Shelf Life

The shelf life of each formula is at least one year. To protect the product, leave it in the carton and store it in a cool place. Inspect the bottles periodically for any leakage from damage or loose caps.

Product Application

How difficult is it to apply the Grip Guard treatment?

We have taken great care to make the application of Grip Guard products not only safe, but also as simple as possible. Before treating an area you will need to ensure all your equipment is clean, on hand and in good working order.

Treating Small Areas

When treating a bathtub or shower, all that is needed is a deck brush or scrubber and a spray bottle. We recommend using a hard bristled brush since a sponge will only absorb (and waste) your product.

It is not necessary to treat the entire area in a tub or shower stall. The sides of the bathtub and the walls of a shower do not require application. Only the area that is underfoot needs to be treated (bottom of the bathtub, floor shower). However, we suggest treating the lip of the bathtub to avoid accidental slippage with a wet foot when stepping into and out of the bath.

Clean the area to be treated. Rinse. Following the directions in the Manual for Grip Guard GG#2, apply the product with the sprayer. Agitate using the brush/scrubber every few minutes. The harder you scrub, the better the effect. Let the product remain wet on the surface for seven to ten minutes. (Some areas treat much faster.) During this time, remember to keep the surface wet. This is done by spraying more product onto the area. The agitation allows the product to penetrate deeply into the pores, thus assuring full effectiveness of the treatment. Continually test the increased friction by hand (wearing nitrile rubber glove). Rinse thoroughly with clean water and let dry. Remember to always clean the brush/scrubber, mop and bucket with clean water after each application.

Treating Large Areas

By carefully following the directions in this Manual, you should have no problems. The size of the area will determine the equipment you need. Be certain to clean greasy/dirty areas first with Grip Guard GG#1 before applying GG#2 and GG#3.

Safety

Although the Grip Guard solutions are corrosive, with proper handling Grip Guard poses no undue hazard. During use it is recommended that skin and eyes are protected by wearing a long sleeved shirt, cap, rubber gloves, respirator and goggles (See Section 15). Handling instructions are included on each bottle. As with any chemical, keep out of the reach of children.

Always test a small area of the surface that is not noticeable before treating the entire surface.

It is important to maintain agitation for the time recommended so that the concentrate is able to penetrate the pores completely. The surface must remain wet throughout this time period.

Do not let the Grip Activator (GG#2) dry on the floor.

This is extremely important. When the solution is left to dry, the water is removed from the mixture creating a stronger mix ratio.

To avoid drying , spray or pour on more product to achieve this. When the allotted time is up, neutralize with GG#3. You may be amazed at the amount of dirt and soil that has accumulated and is lifted to the surface after treatment with GG#2 and GG#3.

Remove the residue by rinsing off the floor thoroughly with clean water.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Grip Guard treatment is a chemical safety product that, when properly applied, greatly reduces the likelihood of slip and fall incidents. Slip/falls are a major risk factor in the workplace. WorkCover estimate that the annual cost is $1.5 billion.
Grip Guard creates a chemical reaction to microscopically change the tread pattern of the surface, resulting in a higher coefficient of friction. Surfaces are actually safer wet than dry because of the increased friction allowing for safe, sure footing.
Yes! For many years, the only means for reducing slip/falls was by application of epoxy or other roughed substances, by installation of unsightly strips of grit paper, or expensive carpet runners, or rubber mats that need continuous replacement and generally are not attractive. Another method utilises the application of a strong acid that etches the top of the tile. By eating away the surface, the stone particles are left. However, this method destroys the shine of the surface and leaves a sandpaper appearance and effect. As time and traffic pass, the tile will wear smooth again and the acid will actually seep through the tile, weakening the glue line and loosening the tiles. In addition, these surfaces are difficult to clean, maintain and keep attractive.
Basically, any stone material surface. The surface must be porous (ie. ceramic tile, quarry tile, terrazzo, porcelain, concrete, brick and pavers).
Any surface that is non-porous (ie. cultured marble plastic, vinyl tiling, linoleum or fibreglass), and any surface made from resin base. In these cases, we recommend DuraGrip Plus.
Anything that interferes with the foot making direct contact with the treated surface, such as dirt, wax or ice, will prevent the Grip Guard treatment from being effective.
No! In fact, Grip Guard solutions can be applied in hot or cold weather. It can be applied in cold weather as long as the water does not freeze during the process. Not that it will not prevent slipping on ice, since there is a layer preventing contact with the treated surface. In hot weather, do not allow the GG#2 to dry. We are not aware of any chemical treatment that reduces the effectiveness of a treated surface.
Yes, just be certain the water does not freeze during its application.
Although a problem applying Grip Guard treatment to these surfaces has never been experienced, we recommend testing a small area first. If Grip Guard is not suitable, use DuraGrip Plus.
The paint must be completely removed. You should arrange for the customer to have the paint removed or utilise DuraGrip Plus.
Grip Guard treatment can still be applied if you first use a floor stripper to remove all the wax. We recommend that you charge extra if you do the stripping work yourself. If the stripping has been done for you, be sure to test a small area first to be certain that the wax has been completely removed.
Grip Guard treatment is effective on any stone surface, so porcelain tubs and ceramic showers stalls can be treated. However, any type of non-porous surfaces such as fibreglass, cannot be treated.
The amount of force required to move an object across a given surface is measured as the coefficient of friction. The more force that is required to move an object (more friction), the safer the surface. Tests have proven Grip Guard to improve the coefficient of friction from .60 up to 1.00.
60 or above considered very safe
.50 to .59 considered relatively safe
.40 to .49 considered dangerous
.35 to .39 considered very dangerous
.00 to .34 considered unusually dangerous
